The highly anticipated film adaptation of Emily Henry’s “People We Meet on Vacation” will be released this Friday on Netflix.
Henry has written a number of popular rom-com books, including “Beach Read” and “Funny Story,” but “People We Meet on Vacation” is her first novel that has been adapted for the screen. Several of her other books have been picked up for both TV and movie adaptations that will be released in the next few years.
The movie is set to be fun, colorful and full of scenes depicting summer travel. For all these reasons, people were surprised when Netflix set the release date for the middle of winter. But the film should provide a fun break from the dreariness of winter weather.
“People We Meet On Vacation” is just the first of a variety of rom-coms, both movies and series, that will be released throughout 2026. Here is a look at some upcoming rom-coms that include new originals and remakes of classics.
What is ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ about?

The “People We Meet on Vacation” book follows Poppy and Alex, unlikely best friends who met in college and bonded during their first road trip together. The two of them are very different; Poppy is a more eccentric travel junkie and Alex is reserved and prefers to stay close to home.
Each summer, the pair goes on vacation together, and the book follows the ups and downs of their ever-changing relationship over the years.
Like the novel, the movie is also set to follow a nonlinear storyline. The two leads are played by Tom Blyth (“Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”) and Emily Bader (“My Lady Jane”).
‘You, Me & Tuscany’
Produced by Universal Studios, “You Me and Tuscany” stars Halle Bailey (“The Little Mermaid”) as Anna, a young woman in her 20s who abandoned her dreams of being a chef and is drifting through life, per Forbes. After losing her house-sitting job and housing, she encounters a handsome Italian man, Matteo, who has an empty villa in Tuscany. Inspired, she flies to Italy to take up residence in the empty villa without Matteo’s permission.
When Gabriella, Matteo’s mother, shows up at the villa unexpectedly, Anna tells her that she is Matteo’s fiancée.
As Anna starts living in this lie, Matteo’s cousin Michael, played by Regé-Jean Page (“Bridgerton”), shows up and chemistry starts to grow between him and Anna.
“You Me and Tuscany” will be released in theaters on April 10.
‘Relationship Goals’
Releasing on Feb. 4, “Relationship Goals” stars singer Kelly Rowland as Leah Caldwell, a TV producer working to become the first woman to head New York’s top morning show, but her ex Jarrett Roy, played by rapper Clifford “Method Man” Smith, shows up to compete for the same position, per Deadline.
Jarrett tells Leah that he is a changed man after learning from the wisdom of a New York Times bestselling book, “Relationship Goals.” Leah’s friends all decide to read the same book and figure out their desires for love.
Leah stays completely focused on breaking through the glass ceiling and isn’t allowing herself to believe in love yet. But the chemistry with her ex continues to grow.
The movie will be released on Prime Video.
‘Sense and Sensibility’
“Sense and Sensibility” is a classic romance novel from the well-known Jane Austen. Set in Georgian-era England, the story follows the three Dashwood sisters, who, after their father dies, move into a modest cottage with their mother.
The book focuses on the two eldest sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they interact with various suitors in their search for true love, per Deadline.
“Sense and Sensibility” was adapted into a movie in 1995 starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. The new 2026 adaptation of “Sense and Sensibility” stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Twisters”) as Elinor and Esmé Creed-Miles (“Hanna”) as Marianne.
The movie from Focus Features will be released in theaters on Sept. 11.
‘Finding Her Edge’
For younger audiences, a YA novel from author Jennifer Iacopelli titled “Finding Her Edge” is being adapted into a series by Netflix.
The book follows three daughters from an ice-skating dynasty as the fate of the family’s struggling rink hangs in the balance, per The New York Times. It focuses on one of the daughters, Adriana Russo, who is training with her new partner, Brayden, while still grappling with feelings for her old partner and first love, Freddie. Adriana and Brayden start pretending to be a couple off the ice to help get a sponsorship, and the lines between what’s real and what’s fake begin to blur.
The Netflix series will be released on Jan. 22.
‘Pride and Prejudice’
Another Jane Austen remake is coming this year, with Netflix producing its own adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice.” In 2005, the book was adapted into a film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
The story follows the ups and downs of the complex romance between Elizabeth Bennet and the wealthy Mr. Darcy. It also highlights the other four Bennet sisters, Jane, Mary, Kitty and Lydia.
Netflix’s adaptation will star Emma Corrin (“The Crown”) as Elizabeth and Jack Lowden (“Dunkirk”) as Mr. Darcy, according to Elle. The release date for the series has not yet been announced.
‘Can This Love Be Translated?’
Looking at foreign television, a new Korean drama from Netflix follows the unexpected love story between a multilingual translator and the major celebrity he translates for, according to Netflix.
“Can This Love Be Translated?” will be released on the streamer on Jan. 16.
It follows Joo Ho-jin, an interpreter fluent in multiple languages. He first meets Cha Mu-hee when she is an unknown actress. After she breaks out as a global star, Ho-jin serves as her translator as she participates in the dating reality show “Romantic Trip” while she dates Japanese actor Hiro Kurosawa.
Over time Ho-jin becomes emotionally invested in Mu-hee and the two are forced to navigate their feelings for each other.
‘The Other Bennet Sister’
There is one more Jane Austen love story coming to the screen this year, but instead of an adaptation, it is a spinoff. “The Other Bennet Sister” is a spinoff of “Pride and Prejudice” and follows the middle Bennet sister, Mary.
The series is based on a novel of the same name by Janice Hadlow. The series will begin at the Bennet family home as the five sisters navigate the high-pressure world of Regency England.
It follows Mary as she works to find her place in the world as a spinster in her 20s. She also embarks on a journey of self-discovery to create her own story. Much to her and her family’s surprise, the middle child finds herself in a love triangle.
Ella Bruccoleri (“Call the Midwife”) leads the cast as Mary Bennet. There is no release date yet for the series, which will premiere on BritBox and BBC One, according to Variety.
