You may not hear Brexley, Jaxton, Bentlee, Maycee and Braxton called across the playground anymore. Unique baby names with inventive spelling had their moment. But Utah County parents, for the most part, are letting the peculiar baby name trend retire gracefully.
Utah parents are embracing the nationwide trend toward traditional — even old-fashioned — baby names, with “Hazel,” “Theodore,” “Wesley” and “Evelyn” topping the 2025 charts.
“Older names appeal to parents who are searching for timeless charm. They also feel both unique and familiar, which is something a lot of parents are seeking in a name,” naming consultant Colleen Slagen told Good to Know.
“They want their child’s name to both stand out and fit in. They want a name that feels sweet but ages well and older names check all these boxes.”
Unique names still endure in Utah, now in standard spellings, as “Quincy,” “Navy” and “Juniper” enter the top 20 for girls, while “Archer,” “Maverick” and “Beau” made the top 20 for boys.
And some names, beyond the top 20, still managed to stand out without any acrobatics — Atlas, Piper, Crew and Adeline are a few of the newest additions to the overall list of Utah County baby names.
The top 10 baby names for both boys and girls have shuffled slightly since last year, according to data from Utah Valley Pediatrics, but certain classics, such as “Olivia,” “Jack,” “Oliver” and “Emma,” have remained consistent members of the list.
