Broadway at the Eccles has revealed an impressive lineup for its 2026-27 season — featuring mostly Salt Lake City premieres and a few fan favorites.

Shows new to Salt Lake City include Tony Award-winning productions “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — which author J.K. Rowling calls the “eighth story in the Harry Potter series” — and “The Outsiders,” the 2024 musical based on S.E. Hinton’s coming-of-age novel. Classics like “The Sound of Music” and “Beauty and the Beast” will also play at the Eccles Theater in the coming season.

“Broadway at the Eccles is more than entertainment — it’s a live shared experience that brings people throughout Utah together and adds so much vibrancy to downtown Salt Lake City,“ Victor Hamburger, vice president of the Mountain Region for Broadway Across America, said in a statement. ”With nine incredible musicals and a blockbuster magical event like no other with ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ the live theater coming to Salt Lake City is better than ever.“

Here’s a breakdown of the shows in the 2026-27 season.

‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ — Sept. 19-Oct. 11

Nineteen years after the events of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the spotlight is now on Harry Potter’s son, Albus Severus Potter, who struggles in his father’s shadow while attending Hogwarts.

The production opened on Broadway in 2018 and won six Tony Awards — including for best play. Originally staged as a two-part play that ran for over five hours, the production was reworked into a roughly three-hour show in 2021.

“Cursed Child” has become the third-longest-running nonmusical play in Broadway history since its 2018 debut, according to Playbill.

Actor Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the original “Harry Potter” series, recently made his Broadway debut in “Cursed Child,” becoming the first cast member from the series to appear in the production, the Deseret News reported. Felton’s Broadway run continues through early May.

Their manager told them a musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s coming-of-age novel “The Outsiders” was in the works, and the creative team wanted the songs to come from Broadway outsiders.

‘Beetlejuice’ — Jan. 5-10, 2027

Inspired by the classic Tim Burton film, “Beetlejuice” comes to life in musical-comedy form.

The Broadway production debuted in 2019 and was affected by the pandemic before ultimately closing to make room for “The Music Man” revival, starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, according to Playbill. The musical recently returned to Broadway for a limited engagement that ended in early January.

Although “Beetlejuice” wasn’t a critical success and didn’t snag any Tony Awards, it has been popular with audiences, Variety reported. The musical previously ran at the Eccles Theater in 2023, per Deseret News.
