A new show is coming to the “Dancing with the Stars” universe this summer.
Variety reported Thursday that the dance competition show will have a new spinoff titled “Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.”
The show will feature a group of up-and-coming professional dancers living together in a house and competing to be the next “Dancing with the Stars” pro. The winner of the competition will land a spot as a pro dancer on the next season of “Dancing with the Stars.”
According to Variety, Season 34 mirrorball champion and wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin is in talks to host the new show. The spinoff will likely air this summer on ABC and Hulu.
Current “Dancing with the Stars” pro Mark Ballas is being considered as a potential judge, along with his mother, Shirley Ballas. Known as “The Queen of Latin,” Shirley Ballas is also a professional ballroom dancer who has served as the head judge on BBC One’s “Strictly Come Dancing” since 2017.
The third judge will be a rotating mentor or pro who will join the Ballases each week.
Throughout the 20-year history of “Dancing with the Stars,” the show has had dozens of professional dancers. Jan Ravnik was the most recently added pro, joining in Season 34 after being a dancer for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
The 35th season of “Dancing with the Stars” is set to premiere this fall, but there is no date set yet, per TV Line.
Earlier this week, the show announced the first-ever Dancing with the Stars Con. The fan convention will take place in Palm Springs, California; it will start on Friday, July 31, and run until Sunday, Aug. 2.
The convention is being marketed as a “celebration of all things ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”
Fans will be able to enjoy live dance performances, interactive live panels, exhibits, Q&A sessions, photo experiences, exclusive merchandise and more.
