She may have changed her hair, her clothes, her style and her jeans, but as Hannah Montana once sang, “you’ll always find your way back home.” That’s just the way it goes, and Miley Cyrus is headed home for the upcoming “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.”
The Emmy-nominated series — which produced 14 platinum and 18 gold albums worldwide, along with two feature films — is returning to the screen in 2026, exactly two decades after its Disney Channel premiere, Disney+ shared.
Cyrus announced the project on X, sharing a short video teasing the episode’s release.
“‘Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of who I am,” Cyrus said in a statement released by Disney+. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection.”
Several fans shared that the sentiment is mutual, as they credit the show with being a key part of their childhood years.
“The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years,” Cyrus continued.
About the ‘Hannah Montana’ special
The “Hannahversary” special will be filmed in front of a live audience and features an interview with Cyrus hosted by Alex Cooper.
The interview will offer a peek into the creation of the pop star character and the impact the show and character had on fans worldwide, the statement shares.
The production will feature never-before-seen footage and the return of the show’s “most memorable sets,” including the Stewart living room and Hannah Montana’s iconic closet.
While the special centers on Cyrus returning to her roots, there has been no official word on other original cast members joining the broadcast.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, emphasized the show’s influence, saying, “‘Hannah Montana’ opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud and embrace every side of themselves, which is why its legacy continues to shine across generations.”
Produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, the special will premiere on March 24 on Disney+, exactly 20 years after its Disney Channel debut.
Cooper, the host, will guide “’Hannah Montana’ fans through the nostalgic and highly-anticipated anniversary celebration,” says the release from Disney.
More fan reactions
The announcement of a live studio audience has social media talking, with fans already making a campaign for a seat on set.
Others were quick to recognize a similarity in the teaser video shared on social media and another Disney blonde: Sharpay Evans. The video featured a personalized license plate for “Hannah Montana,” much like Sharpay’s car in “High School Musical.”
