Chuck Norris, the famed Hollywood actor and martial arts master, died on Thursday, sparking a wave of tributes from across the film industry and beyond.

His family announced his death Friday on Instagram. “It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the family wrote.

While the family did not disclose a cause of death, they noted that “he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved,” the statement continued. “Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”

Norris was 86 years old.

As news of his death spread, stars and public figures took to social media to remember Norris and reminisce on their favorite jokes and memes that centered around the martial artist’s force and influence.

Kevin Sorbo posted a photo of himself with Norris and Bruce Lee on X, calling Norris “a good man, a great friend, and a legend in his own time.”

Sylvester Stallone shared an Instagram photo of the duo on set, writing, “I had a great time working with Chuck. He was All American in every way. Great man and my condolences to his wonderful family.”

Author Stephen King shared several of his favorite jokes that had circulated online about Norris’ strength, while actress Gina Carano posted on X, “Rest in peace to a great man, there will never be anyone like him.”

Lorenzo Lamas also posted a tribute on X, including a warning to the “evil world” that “there is an angel of consequence at the gates.”

Dolph Lundgren shared a photo of the pair on Instagram, writing, “Chuck Norris is the champ.”

“Ever since I was a young martial artist and later getting into movies, I always looked up to him as a role model. Someone who had the respect, humility and strength it takes to be a man. We will miss you, my friend,” Lundgren continued.

A number of political figures also remembered the actor. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott praised Norris as a “legend,” and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared a photo of the two together, claiming Norris as “a close personal friend.”
