“Harry Potter” fans, rejoice! HBO released the first teaser trailer on Wednesday for the much-anticipated wizarding series.
The teaser opens with Harry Potter (Dominic McLaughlin) being forced into a cupboard under the stairs, then enduring a harsh haircut and lecture from his Aunt Petunia (Bel Powley) on how ordinary he is.
Harry is shown receiving his acceptance letter to Hogwarts, and then the magic ensues — including glimpses of the young wizard meeting Hagrid (Nick Frost), running through Platform 9¾ to board the Hogwarts express, getting his first wand, and laughing with Ron (Alastair Stout) and Hermione (Arabella Stanton).
Brief scenes of Minerva McGonagall (Janet McTeer), Headmaster Albus Dumbledore (John Lithgow) and Severus Snape (Paapa Essiedu) are also teased.
Keeping the original title of the U.K. novel, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” the first season will debut on HBO on Christmas Day 2026.
The streaming giant gently pulled back the curtain on the series on Tuesday, unveiling the first official photo from the TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book saga.
The image, released Tuesday, shows Harry Potter from behind, wearing his Gryffindor kit and clutching his broom as he strides toward the bustling Hogwarts Quidditch pitch on a snowy day.
“Harry Potter” will be a decade-long adaptation of Rowling’s seven-book fantasy series. Each season corresponds to one book, allowing the story to delve deeper into the novels than the film adaptations.
“It’s an unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film, that’s the whole reason we’re on this journey,” Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. TV Group, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024.
In February, J.B. Perrette, CEO and president of Global Streaming and Games for Warner Bros. Discovery, said he expected the series to be “the streaming event of the decade,” per Deadline.
“In the series you can go deeper, and tell more of the pieces that you didn’t capture in a two-hour movie,” Perrette added. “It takes theatrical to a whole different level.”
