The first official teaser trailer for “The Chosen” Season 6 was released on Monday.
“We put a lot of time and effort into this because this is important,” Dallas Jenkins, creator of “The Chosen,” said during a Sunday night livestream announcing the release of the trailer.
“This season is the most important and biggest and heaviest season we’ve ever done,” he continued. “But there’s also moments of pure joy and meaning as well, which you wouldn’t expect in a season about the crucifixion. But I really want you to lean into this.”
The 1½-minute trailer opens with an emotional exchange between Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Jesus before the crucifixion. It then shifts to scenes from the final day of Jesus’ life and the chaos that unfolds in Jerusalem.
The sixth season of the biblical drama will depict the final 24 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, known as Good Friday. Audiences will see Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion along with the confusion among his disciples that ultimately leads them to scatter.
“I say this every year, but I truly think that this time, this is going to be the most intense that they’ve ever seen us go,” Abe Bueno-Jallad, the actor who plays Big James on the series, previously told the Deseret News.
“The pace, the drama, all of that has been picked up, and you can feel it. It’s so palpable. There’s not a casual conversation in any scene,” he continued. “Everything is going. The wheels are turning. People are trying to stop things from happening — and they’re not able to.”
According to Jenkins, the upcoming season will focus on “surrender.”
“Season 6 is really a lot about surrender. We’re watching Jesus ultimately surrender to something that was extraordinarily painful,” Jenkins told the Deseret News earlier this year.
He continued, “The disciples confused, broken, wondering, having to surrender. I think I’m hoping that the viewers come away from the season saying, ‘Can you surrender even when you don’t always understand people?’”
When does ‘The Chosen’ Season 6 come out?
Season 6 of “The Chosen” will debut on Prime Video this November.
Season 6 will span six episodes, plus a finale. It will launch with three episodes on Nov. 15, followed by weekly installments before concluding with the global theatrical release of the season finale in spring 2027.
Below are the official streaming release dates for “The Chosen” Season 6:
- Episodes 1-3: Nov. 15
- Episode 4: Nov. 22
- Episode 5: Nov. 29
- Episode 6: Dec. 6
- Season finale: In theaters spring 2027
The sixth season will follow the same release pattern globally and will be available on Prime Video in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, sub-Saharan Africa, the U.K., and Latin America.
For the first time, all six episodes and the finale will be released in dozens of languages, instead of translations being added after the show’s release.
Jenkins called the sixth season “the biggest we’ve ever done without a close second.”
“It’s taking the longest to film, by far,” he continued. “The visual effects, the translations, especially, take at least two to three times longer than any season we’ve ever done.”
When will Season 6 be released on ‘The Chosen’ app?
Official dates for the sixth season’s release on “The Chosen” app have yet to be announced.
As part of the agreement between Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios and Amazon MGM Studios, Prime Video holds a 90-day exclusivity window, meaning new installments of “The Chosen” must stream exclusively on the platform before becoming available in “The Chosen” app.
When announcing the exclusivity deal in a February 2025 livestream, Jenkins noted that 90 days “is actually a short window of exclusivity. (Prime Video) has been so cooperative with us on making sure that that exclusive window is as short as possible.”
The 90-day window of exclusivity starts once all episodes have been released on Prime Video.
