The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently announced dates for the open house and dedication of the Harare Zimbabwe Temple, which is to be the South African country’s first operating temple.
The Harare temple will first open its doors to the media next year on Jan. 19, after which invited guests will tour the temple Jan. 20-21, according to a release posted Monday on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
Then, starting Jan. 22, guests of all faiths and ages will be welcome to tour the temple — located at 65 Enterprise Road Highlands in Harare — during a free public open house period that will run every Monday through Saturday until Feb. 7.
Guests visiting the temple during this time can expect the experience to include an introductory video, followed by a guided walk-through with explanations of each area and its significance.
Following the open house period, Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple March 1, 2026.
The dedicatory session will be broadcast to all church units in the area. Once dedicated, the temple will serve a population of more than 46,000 Latter-day Saints in Zimbabwe who, prior to having a temple in their own country, had been traveling to the Johannesburg South Africa Temple to participate in temple worship.
