President R. Tyler Wallis — the mission leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who was shot during an attempted robbery in the mission home on Saturday — has been released from the hospital in Mexico City.

President Wallis, 56, is continuing to recuperate, according to an update posted on the newsroom page of ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

President Wallis and his wife, Sister Elizabeth Wallis, “express sincere gratitude for the prayers offered in their behalf and look forward to continuing their service as mission leaders in the Mexico Mexico City West Mission,” according to the update.

Sister Wallis was not injured during the incident.

In the early morning hours on Saturday, President Wallis was shot once by an intruder in the mission home at approximately 2 a.m. local time.

Missionaries serving in the Mexico Mexico City West Mission are safe and being supported by the church’s Mexico Area Presidency, said church spokesman Sam Penrod in a previous statement.

President and Sister Wallis, from Orlando, Florida, have been serving in Mexico City since July 1.

The church is cooperating with local authorities as they investigate the incident, Penrod said.

“Our prayers are with President and Sister Wallis, their family members and the missionaries during this challenging time,” said Penrod. “The Church is grateful for the thousands of missionaries and their leaders serving as volunteers throughout the world to extend the love and peace that the Savior Jesus Christ offers to each of us.”
