The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday that, with Lehi City’s approval, preliminary work on utility infrastructure to support the Lehi Utah Temple is underway.
This work — announced ahead of a date for an official groundbreaking ceremony — includes installing underground water, sewer and electricity to the city’s existing utilities, as well as creating a level base for the temple’s construction, according to a Monday release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
“We are excited for this first step in the process of building a house of the Lord in Lehi,” Elder Brian K. Taylor, president of the church’s Utah Area, said in the release.
“This sacred edifice will be a blessing for Latter-day Saints in the area. We are grateful to the city of Lehi for their ongoing support and collaboration.”
When church President Russell M. Nelson announced the Lehi Utah Temple on April 7, 2024, there were approximately 2.2 million Latter-day Saints living in Utah. Site plans for the temple were released just two weeks later, and according to those plans, the temple will be a multistory edifice built on a 22.48-acre site located northwest of the intersection at 3950 North and North Center Street in Lehi.
