The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced dates for the open house and dedication of Oregon’s third Latter-day Saint temple: the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple.
The temple will open its doors to the media and other invited guests on April 20-22, according to the Church’s announcement.
Then, starting April 23, guests of all faiths and ages will be welcome to tour the single-story building during a free public open house period that will run every Monday through Saturday until May 9.
Guests visiting the temple during this time can expect the experience to include an introductory video, followed by a guided walk-through with explanations of each area and its significance.
Following the open house period, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the Willamette Valley temple on Sunday, June 7, at 10 a.m. This dedicatory session will be broadcast to all units in the temple’s district. The dedication will also be rebroadcast at 2 p.m. that Sunday.
“Temples are a vital part of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness,” said then-church President Russell M. Nelson, upon announcing this and 19 other temples in April 2021 general conference.
“Ordinances of the temple fill our lives with power and strength available in no other way,” he said. “We thank God for those blessings.”
The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple was given its name five months after President Nelson announced a temple for Eugene, Oregon, on April 4, 2021. Construction of the temple began roughly 18 months later. And upon dedication, the temple — located in Springfield, a suburb of Eugene in the Willamette Valley — will help serve the more than 150,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 300 congregations that call Oregon home.
