President Jeffrey R. Holland, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is in the hospital for treatment related to ongoing health conditions.
“He is receiving expert care and is with loved ones during this Christmas holiday,” according to a statement released Wednesday afternoon by the Church of Jesus Christ.
“President Holland and his family express gratitude for the many prayers offered on his behalf,” the statement said, “and extend greetings of faith and peace during this season that commemorates the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.”
President Holland recently appeared in the church’s Christmas devotional, which was taped earlier this fall.
President Holland was excused from his duties as an apostle from April to June 2023 after he needed treatment for health issues that included a COVID-19 diagnosis and a kidney condition needing dialysis.
Then in August 2023, his health worsened and he was hospitalized. He said later that he was on death’s door for weeks. His recovery was described by Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve as a miracle that included divine intervention.
Later that fall, he was ordained as acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve, and he since has made international and domestic trips. In October he was ordained as president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
