The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Friday that Church President Dallin H. Oaks will be dedicating the Burley Idaho Temple this weekend on Sunday, Jan. 11.

The Burley Idaho Temple will be the first temple dedicated by President Oaks since he was ordained prophet last year on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The last temple he dedicated before that was the Urdaneta Philippines Temple on April 28, 2024, according to a Church News report.

Accompanying President Oaks at the Burley temple’s dedication ceremony this Sunday will be his wife, Sister Kristen Oaks; Elder Steven R. Bangerter of the church’s temple department and his wife, Sister Susan Bangerter; and General Authority Seventy Elder K. Brett Nattress and his wife, Sister Shawna Nattress.

The dedication ceremony will take place 10 a.m. MST and will be broadcast to all church units within the Burley Idaho Temple district.

About the Burley Idaho Temple

The Burley Idaho Temple — located at 40 S. 150 East in Burley, Idaho — was first announced by the late Church President Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021, and was one of 20 temples announced by President Nelson in April 2021 general conference.

The Burley Idaho Temple’s groundbreaking ceremony then took place on June 4, 2022. And once its construction finished, the Burley temple opened for public tours last year from Nov. 6-22.

To soon become the church’s seventh operating temple in Idaho — a state currently home to nearly 500,000 church members in approximately 1,275 congregations — the Burley Idaho Temple is a two-story edifice of approximately 45,300 square feet.

It sits on a 10.1-acre site, and its decorations inside feature colors that “reflect the farmland and open skies that surround the area,” according to a release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

The church’s six other operating temples in the state are in Idaho Falls, Boise, Rexburg, Twin Falls, Meridian and Pocatello, Idaho. Another four in the state are either under construction or in planning stages.

“Temples are a vital part of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness,” said President Nelson, upon announcing the Burley Idaho Temple in April 2021.

“Ordinances of the temple fill our lives with power and strength available in no other way. We thank God for those blessings.”
