A Latter-day Saint prophet will deliver a BYU devotional for the first time since 2019.

President Dallin H. Oaks will give the devotional at 11:05 a.m. on Feb. 10 in the Marriott Center on campus, according to a news release.

President Russell M. Nelson was the last president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to give a devotional.

President Nelson’s September 2019 talk, “The Love and Laws of God,” was a landmark speech in his seven-and-a-half-year presidency.

This will be President Oaks’ first BYU devotional since September 2022, when he was first counselor in the First Presidency. At the time, he spoke about BYU’s continuing second century. The school is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

President Oaks served as BYU’s president from 1971-80. He served as a Utah Supreme Court Justice from 1980 to 1984, when he was called as an apostle by late church President Spencer W. Kimball.

President Oaks became the 18th president of the church on Oct. 14, following President Nelson’s death.

President Oaks also spoke at BYU’s graduation ceremony in April 2025, when he honored Judge J. Clifford Wallace, who received an honorary degree that day.

The Feb. 10 devotional will be broadcast live on BYUtv and streamed live on BYUtv.org, Broadcasts.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

President Oaks recently was interviewed by Deseret News editor Sarah Jane Weaver before he dedicated the Burley Idaho Temple on Jan. 11. He spoke about the change in mission age for women and the way future temples will be announced.

He also spoke during the funeral for President Jeffrey R. Holland on Dec. 31.
