The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the location of the Norfolk Virginia Temple, as well as provided an exterior rendering of the future temple structure.
The Norfolk Virginia Temple will be constructed on a 23-acre site off Harbour View Boulevard and Bridge Road in Suffolk, Virginia.
Plans for the site call for a single-story temple structure of approximately 18,850 square feet and an adjacent distribution center that will help make Latter-day Saint worship and gospel study resources more accessible to members in the area.
“I envision more temple workers, easy day trips for the youth and more work being done in the temple by the faithful coastal Saints in this area,” said President Mark E. Smith of the church’s Chesapeake Virginia Stake in reaction to the temple’s April 2025 announcement, per a Church News report.

The Norfolk temple “may also make it easier for all of the faithful Saints serving in the U.S. military who come through this area, to add a temple trip to their visit,” he said, adding that tears flowed when local church members heard the announcement.
“We could not be happier, and it brings joy to the lives of many.”
The Norfolk temple — the fourth Latter-day Saint temple announced for Virginia — was one of the last 15 temples announced by the late church President Russell M. Nelson during April 2025 general conference.
Of the state’s other temples, the Richmond Virginia Temple is in operation, the Winchester Virginia Temple is under construction and the Roanoke Virginia Temple joins the Norfolk temple in planning and design stages.
“Increased time in the temple will help us prepare for the second coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ,” said President Nelson upon announcing the Norfolk temple and 14 others.
