The Easter season often brings Cadbury Eggs, Peeps, Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs and now, thanks to Costco, a 10-pound chocolate bunny.
The price tag is equally as heavy, reaching as high as $140 at some locations.
While a $140 chocolate rabbit may seem like an outlier, it’s a symptom of a record-breaking season.
According to a report from the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics, total Easter spending is projected to reach $24.9 billion this year, with per-person spending hitting an average of $195.59.
Food and candy alone account for $11 billion of that total — nearly half of the entire holiday’s economic impact.

Parents might disagree.
According to Yahoo, the “bad” bunny contains as much chocolate as roughly 105 Hershey bars.
Clocking in at a staggering 22,650 calories, the treat is so massive that you’ll need a literal hammer just to break off a piece.
Here’s a video showing this process, thanks to X poster Dom Lucre:
There are additional instructions on the back of the box for “Pete the Bunny.” They suggest either smashing the treat with a hammer, as mentioned, or slicing it with a warm, serrated bread knife.

It leaves consumers with a tough holiday choice: a week’s worth of groceries, or a nearly 2-foot-tall chocolate rabbit. Your call.
