As a teenager, one of my friends, who was the youngest in the family and knew nothing about children, tried babysitting to make some money. Unfortunately, she could not handle the sound of a crying baby and, rather than attending to the child’s needs, she would lie down on the couch, cover her ears with a pillow, and hum to block out the noise. Recently, when I heard Sen. Lindsey Graham tell a reporter he will not read the transcripts related to the Trump impeachment, I thought of my friend’s failed attempts at babysitting.
How disgraceful that Graham, a former military officer, attorney and long-time Republican senator, has reneged on his oath to defend the Constitution, and instead only defends Donald Trump. Graham is well aware of Trump’s amorality, corruption and bullying, as he manifested in his own run for the presidency in 2015-16. Graham even admitted that he voted for Evan McMullin because he could not stomach Trump.
As a lifelong Republican myself, who also voted for Evan McMullin, I am appalled that only Mitt Romney and a few others have had the courage to stand up to Trump’s disgusting behavior. I am proud that Sen. Romney is one of our senators from Utah. The other senators, including Graham, simply continue to pull the pillow over their ears and hum.
