The Salt Lake City Council is currently reviewing a draft master plan for the Salt Lake City Cemetery, which will serve as a road map to help guide preservation efforts, enhance appropriate uses of the cemetery as a multi-use facility, and address financial sustainability going forward.

Oozing with character and historical significance, the Salt Lake City Cemetery is a true jewel of the state capital. In addition to being the final resting place of countless pioneering residents, the city cemetery is a sprawling, reverent vista of trees and a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

The city council held one public hearing Oct. 6 and is set to hold another on Oct. 20. Ensuring this landmark is systemically preserved for future generations, while also utilizing other uses, is incredibly important. I urge everyone to read the draft proposal and provide feedback to the city.
