President Donald J. Trump has been accused of telling lies over the years, but none have been more injurious than those in connection with COVID-19, which have undermined the credibility of his medical advisers and their scientific models for the spread of the disease.

Right up to the Nov. 3 election, he repeatedly said, “We are rounding the curve, we are rounding the curve.” The tragic truth is that far from rounding the curve, the month of November has seen a quarter of all COVID-19 cases in the U.S. On Nov. 1, I read there were 9,282,300 cases and 230,900 deaths reported in the U.S. On Nov. 23, I read there were 12,476,400 cases and 257,500 death reported in the U.S.

President Trump repeatedly suggested that the media was focusing on “COVID, COVID, COVID” to embarrass him and that come Nov. 4 they would no longer do so, since the disease would magically “disappear” — which was echoed by one noted Republican senator. The truth is the media has continued to focus on COVID-19 since Nov. 4 because COVID-19 is spreading rapidly across the nation, as the models predicted.
