I want to give a big shout-out to the Santa Sacks project. This charitable endeavor has been going on for the past 11 years — under the inspiration, initiative, and energy of Kathy Newton — to benefit students in the Granite School District. Without the donations and generosity of so many individuals and businesses in the Salt Lake area, the Santa Sacks project could not have gone forward with the capacity of serving thousands of students who would otherwise not have Christmas.
This year, they expect to provide Santa Sacks for more than 3,500 students of all ages in need. The COVID-19 pandemic has not stifled the generous hearts of our citizens. Kathy speaks of countless miracles with people coming forward with the donations needed. Even with the increasing numbers of sacks needed, because of the people of our community, these children will still have Christmas during a difficult economic year — a heartwarming situation that reminds us of the good that is still in our world, especially this community.
