Trooper Nick Swallow talks with a driver after pulling them over for speeding.

Is it really any surprise to anyone that there are people who do not want to wear a mask? Who do not want to social distance? There have been laws about drinking and driving, and some people don’t think they need to obey those rules. There are speed limits, and some people don’t think they need to obey those rules. There are rules about texting and driving, but some people think those do not apply to them.

I remember reading about a man who received 10 commandments and wrote them on a rock; they have been presented to the whole world for many thousands of years, but there are people who think they don’t need to obey those rules.

Everything that is going on right now should not be a surprise to any one. There will always be those who have an attitude that says, “This does not matter to me,” or “I am the exception to that rule,” or “No one can tell me what to do; I have my rights.” But when people can think of others, and not just about themselves, then maybe they will start to obey rules.
