Editor’s note: This tumultuous year has been difficult for families, but especially so for moms who may have found themselves homeschooling children while managing work and family commitments. The Deseret News asked mothers to share what they learned from 2020 and how they plan to take on the challenges of 2021.
Isn’t it crazy how we can look back on a year and realize how much everything has changed? The amount of people who have either come into your life or left; the memories you will never forget or those ones you wish that you maybe could. 2020 has been quite the ride ... am I right?!
Of course, this year has had its moments, with everything that’s gone on in this crazy world with so much uncertainty. Life has been scary at times, and honestly I’m not usually the type of person to pay attention to the negative. My husband calls it my “Shayli World” — I never watch the news because I think it’s depressing. Can you blame me? Especially this year, what can we believe? It’s exhausting.
But I think the biggest thing we can do with everything going on around us is decide how we want it to affect us. Do we let it bring us down? Do we let it cause tension in our relationships? Or do we choose to live in the moment, hug our loved ones a little tighter, be thankful for everything and everyone we have in our lives and soak it in?
Tomorrow isn’t promised. You never know when it will be your last time you hug or see someone you love. Things can change in an instant, whether it is for the good or the bad. But all we have control of is how we can choose to react. We decide which direction we will go next. Bring it on, 2021!
