Dr. Angela Dunn, state epidemiologist, talks about Utah’s COVID-19 numbers during a briefing at the Capitol in Salt Lake City on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.

The data about the surge in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 is starting to be meaningless to me. I ask the question to myself, “Why the surge?”

I wonder if, upon being checked into the hospital, it could be ascertained if the patient was following the suggested health recommendations. Were they wearing masks? Did they practice social distancing? Did they follow the recommendations given by the doctors, epidemiologists and specialists? To me, this data, published along with the number of COVID cases, would have more meaning.
