Now that the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump is done, Congress can get back to work and remember that they work for us, the people.
Congress has lost sight of the mission given them by the founders in the Constitution. They are to serve as the representatives of the people, to lead out. They should act as a counterbalance to the executive branch, to look at all actions and proposals coming from presidents and their administrations with at least some skepticism, and use the deliberative processes provided to assure what is done is in the best interest of us all.
For decades, Congress has abdicated its role of being of the initiator of big actions. This goes for members of both political parties. And as citizens, we need to hold our senators and representatives accountable for what does and doesn’t get done.
