Kudos to Latter-day Saint Charities, Intermountain Healthcare and University of Utah Health for spearheading the ProjectProtect initiative (https://projectprotect.health/#/). Along with many other sponsors, such as the Tony Finau Foundation, doTerra, Dominion Energy, Stitching Hearts Worldwide and community volunteers, they are stepping up to the plate to show our front-line responders and medical providers that we care, that we support them and mostly that we truly value human life.
While a previous letter to the editor chose to shame Intermountain specifically, I applaud all involved in this endeavor. We are in a medical crisis where we should look at what we can do to assist each other. The shortage of masks and other personal protective equipment is a worldwide dilemma. This is not a matter of being able to afford these supplies. This is a matter of protecting lives and saving lives. Hospitals cannot purchase what is not available and may not be for months. Many people around the world are undertaking similar projects to aid our courageous partners in this crisis. Should we shame them all?
I am so proud to live in a community where we can put aside our differences, unite and stand tall to meet the challenges before us. Thank you to all committed to “love your neighbor.”
