The saying “no good deed goes unpunished” could be applied to HB209. If this bill is passed by the Utah Legislature, then owners of electric vehicles would have their annual electric vehicle fee increased from $52 to $260 to make up for electric car users not paying gasoline taxes for maintaining roads.

To help the environment, I had solar cells installed on my roof and plan on buying an electric car. If electric car owners are required to pay $260 to make up for not paying gas taxes, then a pollution tax should be added to gasoline to take into account the environmental cost of using gasoline.
