I’m a Utahn who has lived in Washington, D.C. for the past 13 years. Residents of D.C. have been witnessing our rights stripped away. Now we face a federalized police force.
Does D.C. have crime? Absolutely, like every big city. Could D.C. benefit from reform? Yes. Is D.C. the dangerous city our president purports it to be? Absolutely not.
The D.C. I live in has some problems, but we also have friendly neighbors, festivals, great dining, supportive teachers and amazing public transportation, and a majority of the 700,000 residents are caring citizens. Our current president does not wander far from the White House. It’s doubtful he and most members of Congress can name a single neighborhood in D.C., but I can. Most top-level government officials live outside of D.C. in the suburbs of Maryland and Virginia. How would they know what’s best for D.C. and its citizens?
We are tired of the bullying and inaccurate stories. Please get to know the real D.C. Stand up for us. Please talk with your representatives. We want to live our lives without constant government overreach from people who don’t really know Washington, D.C.
