My father is deployed overseas with the U.S. Navy, serving our country with honor. While he’s away, my mother is home in Utah trying to manage everything on her own — the bills, the worry and now the uncertainty caused by the government shutdown.

Military families like mine sacrifice a lot, but we shouldn’t have to carry the added burden of wondering whether paychecks will come on time or support will be delayed. Our leaders in Washington owe it to those serving to keep the government open and functioning.

This isn’t about politics — it’s about faith in one another and responsibility to the people who hold our communities together. With healthcare subsidies also set to expire soon, the consequences of continued gridlock will only deepen for Utah families.

It’s time for both parties to come together, reopen the government and restore stability to those who serve and those who depend on them.
