I would like to thank Rep. Blake Moore for his support for the Kingdom of Denmark during these troubled times. As a former missionary to a Scandinavian country (Sweden), as well as a fellow Utahn with Danish heritage, the coercion and strange “hemisphere” rhetoric coming out of the White House against Denmark has been heartbreaking.

I would like to point out a few things:

1. Denmark has consistently paid its NATO dues and has contributed troops to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is a loyal partner and ally — as well as a founding member of the NATO alliance.

2. At one time, the United States had over 17 bases in Greenland. In all instances, Denmark worked with the United States.

3. Trump has consistently undermined NATO — a treaty that has protected Western Europe, thousands of Latter-day Saint missionaries from Utah who have served there, along with several Latter-day Saint leaders from Utah who have lived in these countries. The shenanigans from Trump as well as other Republican leaders are catastrophic for the alliance and will leave our country with fewer allies and more trouble.

I hope that sensible Utahns (who have the highest percentage of Danish ancestry), including all elected officials, will go on record and support NATO and fight against the bizarre rhetoric coming out of the White House.
