Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is coming under fire for harsh comments she made about President Donald Trump in an interview with CNN on Monday.

The Democratic California lawmaker, who has been in Congress since 1987, told CNN’s Elex Michaelson that Trump was a “vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth.”

When he questioned what she said, she doubled down on her comments.

“You think he’s the worst thing on the face of the earth?” Michaelson asked. Pelosi responded, “I do, because he’s the resident of the United States, and he does not honor the Constitution of the United States. In fact, he’s turned the Supreme Court into a rogue court. He’s abolished the House of Representatives. He’s chilled the press.”

Sources close to Pelosi have said the longtime congresswoman is expected to announce she will not be seeking reelection next year, per ABC News.

Though it is not confirmed, it is believed she will make an announcement about her future on Wednesday, following election day.

Her comments flared online backlash from the White House and other political pundits.

“Crazy Nancy has been reduced to muttering about how President Trump ‘is just a vile creature’ and ‘the worst thing on the face of the Earth,’ the White House’s rapid response X account posted. “Very sad to see what little was left of her addled, demented mind evaporate as she becomes fully engulfed in hatred. Sick!”

“This is so absurd,” political commentator Piers Morgan reacted on X. “Worse than Hamas terrorists? Iranian mullahs? Putin? Jong-Un? Democrat dinosaurs like Pelosi don’t know anything but over-demonising Trump. It’s why they’re polling so badly.”

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., posted laughing emojis with the comment “Trump broke her.”
