Earlier this week, as the White House’s extravagant “Home is Where the Heart is” Christmas decor made its debut, first lady Melania Trump and second lady Usha Vance left Washington, D.C., to show their gratitude to U.S. troops.

They arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to put together care packages for deployed troops.

The packages assembled with help from the American Red Cross contained Rice Krispies treats, peanuts, granola bars and handwritten notes.

“The care packages that we’re assembling today are part of a proud and enduring tradition,” said Vance. She wore suede brown pants, black flats and a plaid blazer.

“It’s an honor to contribute to that legacy of service today. As we enter the holiday season, may we be reminded of our shared responsibility for our communities, our neighbors and our nation.”

“We speak regularly of the bravery of our Service members — and we should. But we must also illuminate the bravery of those who walk beside them. The spouses who carry the weight of family life on top of their own dreams,” she said. As per the pool report, she wore a Ralph Lauren gray button-up, a brown turtleneck, and Christian Louboutin boots.

“May this Christmas bring peace to your homes, safety to those who are thatand gratitude in the hearts of every American who thanks you for your service and sacrifice.” is the second time in recent weeks when the first and second ladies have traveled together for official engagements.

On Nov. 19, the first and second ladies visited the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River in North Carolina and addressed 1,500 service members and families.

Again, Trump and Vance marked the White House’s commitment to the military community and acknowledged the sacrifices of the service members deployed during the holidays in their address to 1,500 service members and their families.

While in North Carolina, they met students and families at Lejeune High School to discuss the responsible role of artificial intelligence in educational institutions. They also talked to students about the White House’s AI challenge that is encouraging innovative solutions to everyday problems through technology.

At DeLalio Elementary School, they created Thanksgiving crafts. Children’s literature also took center stage here, given the second lady’s summer reading initiative this past June.

In between, they joined the United Service Organization in assembling care packages for the Marines.

In an interview with Fox News following the first lady’s “peace letter” to Putin, Vance said, “I have admired her approach to a lot of things but at the top of the list she really does care about children.”

The letter tells the Russian president it’s time for the children of Ukraine to be protected. It was hand-delivered ahead of the U.S.-Russia summit hosted by President Donald Trump in Alaska in August this year.

“She cares about their welfare,” Vance said of Trump. “And I think every time she uses her voice to tell people how important it is to keep children safe and to make sure that they grow happy and healthy, it’s a good thing.

The first lady hasn’t commented on Vance aside from the appearances they’ve shared lately.
