The Department of Justice released millions of files related to late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Friday. The latest release included more references to President Donald Trump, as well as former President Bill Clinton, and a high ranking Obama administration official.
In accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Trump signed into law last November, the DOJ said it was making more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images public on Friday.
According to a search on the DOJ’s database, there are many documents that mention Trump, as well as Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Clinton, Elon Musk, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Obama administration official Kathy Ruemmler.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told reporters that the files released Friday will be the last of the Epstein files as the DOJ has completed its review and made all information available to the public. Some material withheld from the drop includes duplicate information, sensitive information about victims and violence.
The DOJ said in a press release that in an effort to release the information quickly and comply with the law to make all information available, some of the files may include “fake or falsely submitted” information.
“Some of the documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election. To be clear, the claims are unfounded and false, and if they have a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already,” the DOJ said in a statement.
The Deseret News reached out to the White House for comment and was referred to the statement made by the DOJ that the production of the Epstein files may include fake or false information and some include “untrue and sensationalist” claims made against Trump ahead of the 2020 election.
It’s the latest in the saga of Epstein’s crimes after Trump promised on the campaign trail in 2024 that he would make the information public. Attorney General Pam Bondi was in hot water last summer when she gave differing information about releasing the files.
While Blanche said that it was the final batch of information that the FBI has related to Epstein and his former girlfriend and associate Ghislaine Maxwell’s investigations and court cases, House Oversight Democrats are arguing that it’s not the full information.
“Donald Trump and his Department of Justice have now made it clear that they intend to withhold roughly 50% of the Epstein files, while claiming to have fully complied with the law,” Ranking Member Robert Garcia, D-Calif., said in a statement. “This is outrageous and incredibly concerning.”
The Oversight Committee subpoena is directing Bondi to release all the files to the committee, “while protecting survivors.”
“We are demanding the names of Epstein’s co-conspirators and the men and pedophiles who abused women and girls. We will begin a thorough review of this latest limited production, but let’s be clear: our work and investigation are just getting started,” Garcia said.
