Former U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is joining the Washington Reporter as a contributing columnist.
The news outlet says her column will be an inside look at some of the most consequential policy debates.
Sinema, who began her political career as a Democrat but then labeled herself as an independent, has been out of office for two years.
One of the founders of the Washington Reporter, Brian Colas, told Fox News Digital, “The Reporter is a center-right publication but our aim is to reach a bipartisan audience, and that’s why we’re adding some columnists who will speak to both independents and Democrats.”
The Washington Reporter plans to announce more contributors in the coming weeks.
“For Sen. Sinema, our Republican audience also finds her insights fascinating, especially some of the policy debates like AI and drug pricing and financial services,” Colas continued.
Political turbulence and public scrutiny
Sinema had a falling out with the Democratic Party several years ago after she refused to eliminate the Senate filibuster.

Subsequently, in 2022, she changed her party affiliation to independent.
After leaving politics in 2024, Sinema has been a strong advocate for quality artificial intelligence growth, and was president and CEO of Arizona Business Roundtable, which lobbies for artificial intelligence data centers in Arizona, according to the Deseret News.
In January, Sinema spoke with Utah Gov. Spencer Cox at a University of Utah Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute event in Salt Lake City, saying “good leadership is also needed to guide communities through the ‘period of disruption.’”
“Right now in our political system, we dramatically punish those who go to the middle and find a compromise and do the boring work of finding the solutions, and we reward those who make a lot of noise on the edges and do nothing,” Sinema said, according to a report by Deseret News writer Brigham Tomco.
