Maybe you remember (or maybe not) former Jazz reserve Ben Handlogten.
He's back in the news. Or was he ever there in the first place?
Anyway, SouthLake Christian Academy in North Carolina has hired him as its head basketball coach.
A two-year assistant at SouthLake, Handlogten took over the position when head coach Trent Barnes resigned.
Here's guessing his per diem is considerably less than the $100 he got when he was playing for the Jazz. Here's guessing he doesn't have a per diem.
Not that these stories are related, but former NFL quarterback Scott Mitchell is the football coach at Springville High in Utah County.
Seems some athletes, after they've made their money, are content to go down to the high school level to coach. Good for them. For all the bad publicity athletes get, a lot of them really do want to give back to their sport. Often they're coaching for little or nothing on that level.
It's always good to see those who have been in the major leagues sharing some of their knowledge.
