After that, Alex Smith was a big disappointment. The former Ute quarterback, was sometimes mentioned as one of the worst mistakes in draft history. But now in his seventh season with the Niners, he is being called "an elite" quarterback in the league.

Smith is having a fine year. The Niners are 9-1 with eight consecutive wins. So Smith is actually playing like an elite quarterback. But there's a big difference between playing "like" and elite QB and being one.

Smith an elite QB?
Bring it up in February, after the Niners have won the Super Bowl. But maybe not even then. Right now he isn't an elite quarterback, he's only playing like one. After watching him for the previous six seasons, I'll just say one thing: More proof, please.
