I had two things I couldnt fit into my column about Boobie Hobbs in Friday's paper.
Here's the rest of the story:
(a) The hair.
(b) The nickname.
First, the hair. The Utah cornerback has multicolored dreadlocks. Love em. And I love his attitude.

Utah media guide photoI was actually going for all red, because of the Utes. Last fall Im like, I want to do something creative,' because I think of myself as different, unique, creative. I dont like regular black dreads, he said.
So Im like, Im gonna just dye my hair all blond. I had it red before that, and it turned it pink. I looked in the mirror and Im thinking, I cant go back here with this.' But Im a unique guy. But ever since I got back (to Utah), people are like, I like your hair; you are the only one who can pull it off.'
I nominate him for the best hair in Utah, beating out RSL's Kyle Beckerman.
As for the nickname, that came from his grandmother. It was a goochie-goochie-goo kind of baby name. (His given name is Travonne.)

Deseret News photoBoobie is my nickname. My grandmother gave all the grandkids nicknames. But I was young when she passed away (2002), so I can even understand why she called me Boobie.
