LOGAN — Has Utah State quarterback Jordan Love played his final game in Maverik Stadium?

Most likely, according to a report by Yahoo Sports.

Per columnist Dan Wetzel, if Love does not enter the NFL draft, a decision he is expected to make upon learning his draft grade, Love will likely leave Logan as a graduate transfer.

According to Wetzel’s source, the Big 12 and/or AAC will be Love’s likely destinations, with Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Houston all possibilities.

If Love joins the Red Raiders in Lubbock, he will be reunited with former Utah State coach Matt Wells and offensive coordinator David Yost.

Under their direction in 2018, Love had a record-breaking year. He threw for 3,567 yards and 32 touchdowns as a sophomore, breaking five school records along the way.

This season, under the tutelage of Gary Andersen and offensive coordinator Mike Sanford Jr., Love has been less prolific of a passer, completing 263-of-434 (.606) passes for 3,085 yards (257.1 ypg) and 17 touchdowns, with 16 interceptions.

If Oklahoma is the choice, Love will come under the direction of quarterback guru Lincoln Riley. In his three years as the head coach of the Sooners, Riley has had two quarterbacks win the Heisman Trophy, Baker Mayfield in 2017 and Kyler Murray in 2018, both of whom were transfers. This year, Jalen Hurts, another transfer quarterback, is one of four finalists for the Heisman.

If Houston is Love’s destination, he would likely battle incumbent starter D’Eriq King for the starting job, barring King’s transfer from Houston. The senior played four games this season before sitting out the rest of the year to preserve a redshirt year and his remaining eligibility. In 2018, King was one of the more dynamic signal callers in the country, throwing for 2,982 yards and 36 touchdowns.

If, contrary to reports, Love decides to stay in Logan, the starting job would assuredly be his. With another year spent in Aggie blue, Love would be expected to break every quarterbacking record at the school.

In the event Love does leave, back-up Henry Colombi would likely assume the role of starting quarterback at Utah State. Colombi, a native of Hollywood, Florida, has appeared in six games this year in relief of Love, and thrown for 221 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 31 yards and a score.
