SALT LAKE CITY — Timmy Allen has been rewarded for playing well against his team’s rival and against Scottie Pippen’s alma mater.

The Utah sophomore was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in wins over BYU and Central Arkansas last week.

Allen’s play helped the Utes improve to 5-0 at the Huntsman Center. It also helped him earn his first Pac-12 weekly honor and the first for the Utah basketball program since Justin Bibbins received the recognition on Jan. 22, 2018.

BYU held a 16-point lead over Utah, but the 6-foot-6 forward helped the Utes rally past the Cougars in overtime. Allen scored 14 of his career-high 27 points following the halftime break. That included him scoring six of the Utes’ final nine points in the final 2:29 minutes of regulation.

Allen only needed 26 minutes to put up 24 points against Central Arkansas on Saturday.

The Utes’ leading scorer is averaging 20.8 points, which is second-best in the Pac-12 and 25th in the nation. He’s also in top 10 in the conference for rebounding (7.4 per game, eighth) and defensive rebounds (6.78 per game, third). He also ranks 24th in the nation in free-throw conversions (46).

Utah wraps up its nonconference schedule with three straight neutral-site games, beginning Saturday against Weber State at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The Utes then take on Kentucky at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 18 and San Diego State at Staples Center on Dec. 21.
