SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz hung around after trailing by as many as 13 and made key plays on both ends of the court in the fourth quarter to beat the Dallas Mavericks 112-107 at Vivint Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The duo of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell came up big for the Jazz (32-13). Gobert finished with 22 points — he shot 8 of 8 from the field — and had 17 rebounds and five blocks, none bigger than when he was turned around by Delon Wright yet recovered to block Wright’s layup attempt with 24.8 seconds to play and the Jazz up two. Mitchell added a team-high 25 points — 15 of those points came in the second half — and added eight rebounds and five assists.
The Jazz only led twice, both by one point in the first and fourth quarters, until a Gobert putback with 1:02 to play put Utah up two. The Jazz stuck in the game by outrebounding Dallas 42-34 and nearly matching the Mavericks’ 16 3-pointers with 15 of their own. Utah made six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter — including a 3 from Royce O’Neale with 38.5 seconds to play to put the Jazz up 109-107 — and outscored Dallas 32-23 in the final period.
The Jazz also had a decided advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 17 of 22 from the stripe while Dallas made just 7 of 13. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks (28-17) with 25 points but was only 1 of 5 from the free-throw line.
