Utah knocked off No. 21 Colorado Saturday, handing the Buffaloes their first loss of the season. Utah scored 28 unanswered points in the second half.

3 takeaways

Ty Jordan comes alive in fourth quarter

Colorado did well in stopping Utah’s running game in the first half. After the first two quarters, the Utes were held to just 47 rushing yards, with Jordan accounting for 33 of them.

But Utah easily eclipsed its first-half rushing total in the third quarter as Jordan rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown in the frame, including a 35-yard score.

Jordan had six carries for 66 yards in the fourth quarter, with 63 coming on a touchdown to put Utah up for good, 35-21.

Jordan and Utah’s offensive line came alive in the fourth quarter and were key to the win.

Utah shuts down Buffaloes’ run game

Entering Saturday’s game, Colorado’s run game, led by Jarek Broussard, was the best rushing offense in the Pac-12. The Buffaloes rushed for an average of 245 yards per game, and Broussard had rushed for over 120 yards in each game played so far, including 301 yards against Arizona.

The Utes were stout against the run, as Broussard never truly got going. Utah held him to 80 yards, a season low, and held Colorado as a whole to just 110 yards. Nephi Sewell also forced a Broussard fumble.

No penalties

Utah had zero penalties on Saturday. Yes, you read that right. A game after the Utes had 11 penalties for 96 yards, including a couple that led to Oregon State touchdowns, Utah was disciplined against Colorado and didn’t have a single flag, on either side of the ball.
