While the BYU Cougars and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers’ impromptu game last Saturday became an instant classic, one negative moment occurred when Chanticleer junior Jeffrey Gunter repeatedly knocked Cougar quarterback Zach Wilson to the ground as time expired in the first half after Wilson had thrown an interception in the end zone and the Chanticleers were returning it, which ultimately led to a small scuffle between the teams.

On Monday, Gunter was named the Sun Belt Conference’s defensive player of the week for his performance during the game.

After the interception, Wilson got blocked by Coastal Carolina’s Teddy Gallagher, but then Gunter swooped in and drove Wilson to the turf. As Wilson started to stand up, Gunter did it a second time. Again, Wilson tried to get up, and Gunter elbowed him backward.
