SALT LAKE CITY — BYU’s mascot, Cosmo the Cougar, is known for his stunts and dance moves.
Now, it sure seems like he can fly.
During the BYU men’s basketball game last Saturday against San Francisco, the BYU dunk team stood behind the 3-point arc and lifted Cosmo before launching the furry feline toward the hoop.
As Cosmo flew toward the basket, another member of the dunk team tossed a basketball to Cosmo, who then slammed the ball home, eliciting a roar from the Marriott Center crowd.
This video from Twitter user Eric Watson, @erwatso9, shows the stunt in slow motion and captures the impressive length Cosmo flew to reach the hoop.
Here it is in real time from Watson.
The stunt went viral, was featured on the ESPN site and caught the attention of, among others, BYU coach Mark Pope and Cougar athletic director Tom Holmoe.
