SALT LAKE CITY — BYU’s 2020 football matchup with Northern Illinois is moving to the Chicago metropolitan area.

The Cougars announced Wednesday that the Oct. 24 matchup with be played at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois — it was originally scheduled to be played at the NIU campus in DeKalb — and the contest will be called the 2020 Huskie Chi-Town Showdown.

SeatGeek Stadium is home to the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League and the former home of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire FC. It will be the first BYU football game played in a stadium built specifically for professional soccer. The stadium has a listed seating capacity of 20,000, which is 4,000 less than Northern Illinois’ Huskie Stadium.

The Cougars and Huskies have played just once before, when Northern Illinois beat BYU 7-6 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2018.
