SALT LAKE CITY — The losing continues for the Utah Jazz.
After back-to-back home losses to the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets over the weekend, the Jazz dropped another game Monday night at Vivint Arena.
The Phoenix Suns defeated Utah 131-111, as the Jazz fell to 36-21 on the season.
Here are three takeaways from the Jazz’s latest loss.
- The Jazz were not doomed by a slow start as they were against both the Spurs and Rockets. Instead, it was the final three quarters of the game that proved Utah’s undoing. After outscoring Phoenix 35-27 in the first period, the Jazz were outscored 104-76 the rest of the way. Utah allowed Phoenix to score 30-plus points in each of the final three periods, including a 37-point third quarter, which was just more of the same for a Suns squad that has made a habit of that of late.
- Statistically, Donovan Mitchell had a bounce back performance, after a streak of ho hum games. Mitchell scored a game high 38 points on 11 of 19 shooting. The third year guard was lights out from behind the arc, making 6 of 9 attempts. Mitchell was also nearly perfect at the free throw line (10 for 12), grabbed four rebounds and handed out four assists.
- Balance was the name of the game for the Suns. Five different players scored in double figures, including four starters, namely Ricky Rubio (22 points), Devin Booker (24), Kelly Oubre Jr. (18) and Deandre Ayton (16). Dario Saric added 14 points off the bench for Phoenix. By way of contrast, Mitchell and Bojan Bogdanovic were the only Jazzmen to score 16 or more points.
