On Thursday morning as collegiate athletics leagues across the country canceled their basketball tournaments in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Pac-12 took it one step further, canceling “all Pac-12 sport competitions and Pac-12 championship events, effective immediately,” the conference said in a statement.

Notably, that includes the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships, which were scheduled to take place at the Maverik Center in West Valley City on March 21, as well as numerous other NCAA-sanctioned sports at the University of Utah.

“This decision has been made in consultation with our member universities in an effort to limit the spread of the virus and in the interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes, campus personnel, working and event personnel, and all those who attend Pac-12 events.”

After the Pac-12’s announcement, the University of Utah sent its own announcement saying all competitions would be canceled, which includes non-Pac-12 events such as lacrosse and skiing, whether they be home or away.
