SALT LAKE CITY — As first reported by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman on Tuesday night, the Utah Valley Wolverines’ men’s and women’s basketball games against Chicago State on Saturday have been canceled as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.

Chicago State made the decision to not travel its men’s basketball team this week to its Thursday games against Seattle University or its Saturday games at UVU. The Wolverines’ women’s team will travel to its Thursday game at UMKC but will no longer go to Chicago State.

Goodman noted Chicago State’s games this week are the first to be canceled out of precaution against coronavirus.

The UVU men’s team will face UMKC on Thursday night at home, and Saturday’s tickets will be honored for that game. Thursday will now be Senior Night for UVU.

According to Goodman, UMKC will not travel to Seattle for its Saturday game.

The canceled games are officially “no-contests,” but the Western Athletic Conference has awarded the Wolverines wins for standings and conference tournament seeding purposes.

The UVU women’s team is currently third in the nine-team WAC standings, while the men’s team is eighth, ahead of only Chicago State.

This comes as the National College Players Association is urging the NCAA to play the upcoming NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments without fans present.
