When former University of Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley announced last Saturday that he was going to sign with the Baltimore Ravens after not getting selected in the NFL draft, the news was met by a tweet from the best football player on the planet.
Ravens quarterback and NFL MVP Lamar Jackson tweeted (incidentally, it was a quote tweet of Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, who went to Louisville like Jackson), “Welcome fam,” with the addition of a purple heart, “you owe me from that game I didn’t forget.”
Jackson added two angry face emojis and two laughing emojis.
Huntley replied with two laughing emojis, the fingers crossed emoji, a black heart emoji and the 100 emoji.
As it turns out, Huntley and Jackson went to high school about 30 minutes away from each other in Florida, and Huntley’s Hallandale Chargers faced Jackson’s Boynton Beach Tigers for the District 15-6A title on Halloween night in 2014.
Eleven months younger than Jackson, Huntley led the Chargers on a drive with 30 seconds left, down by one, 36-35. Huntley got his team in field goal range, and Celso Lopez made it from 31 yards out for the win.
According to a story by the Sun Sentinel’s Steve Gorten from that night, Huntley finished 16 of 26 for 304 yards and three touchdowns while Jackson accounted for five total touchdowns.

The Ravens announced Thursday that they have officially signed Huntley. Former BYU running back Ty’Son Williams and former Utah cornerback Josh Nurse are also expected to sign as free agents with Baltimore, although the team has not yet made those transactions official.
