Utah State announced Tuesday it has signed Szymon Zapala, a 6-foot-11, 220-pound center that is a four-star prospect by 247Sports.

“We are thrilled to announce Szymon will be joining the Aggie family. Szymon has the unique combination of being an absolute warrior on the floor and a borderline nuclear physicist in the classroom,” Utah State coach Craig Smith said in a released statement. “He has played at an extremely high level, representing the Polish National team. He has also been very well coached in Poland. Above all, he is a tremendous person with a great attitude that leaves a positive impression on everyone that he is in contact with.”

In 2019, Zapala played for the Polish National team in the U18 FIBA European Championships. Zapala averaged 7.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in the tournament as Poland advanced to the FIBA championship. He also earned MVP honors at the U20 Polish Cup.

Zapala will play for Utah State in the 2020-21 season.
