SALT LAKE CITY — December 10, 2021.
While not set in stone, seeing as it is over a year and a half away, that date could well mark the 2021-22 Red Rocks Preview.
Utah gymnastics fans will assuredly fill the Huntsman Center — barring any long-term repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic — to get their first glimpses of their favorite Ute gymnasts. Cammy Hall, Cristal Isa and Adrienne Randall — rising juniors — will be seniors then, and MyKayla Skinner may once again be representing the University of Utah alongside them.
Also expected to be among the Red Rocks? A pair of international elites — Grace McCallum and Kara Eaker.
Hailing from Isanti, Minnesota and Grain Valley, Missouri, respectively, McCallum and Eaker are currently some of the best gymnasts the United State have to offer. Both were 2018 and 2019 World team members. McCallum was the 2019 U.S. all-around bronze medalist, while Eaker was the 2018 U.S. balance beam silver medalist, a 2019 Pan American Games team and balance beam champion, and floor exercise silver medalist. In 2019 she was the U.S. balance beam silver medalist.
Red Rocks fans won’t have to wait until 2021 to watch McCallum and Eaker in action.
On Monday, May 25 — Memorial Day — the Olympic Channel, an Internet television service operated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will air the women’s team final of the 2019 World Championships, held in Stuttgart, Germany.
During the women’s team final, the U.S. women won their fifth consecutive team title, tying a record set by Romania. The U.S. amassed a total score of 172.330, winning the competition by nearly six points.
The 2019 U.S. women’s world team included Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Sunisa Lee, and, you guessed it, McCallum and Eaker.
On Saturday, May 30, the second and final day of the individual event finals will then be broadcast on the same network, with Eaker competing on balance beam.
Both Monday’s women’s team final and Saturday’s individual event finals will be broadcast at 6 p.m. MDT.
On Sunday, May 31, encore showings of both competitions, as well as the men’s team final, the women’s and men’s all-around finals, and both days of individual event finals will be aired, starting at 8 a.m. MDT.
